1. Sandbox: For the Luxury Beach Club Experience…

Sandbox is a high-end beach club located in La, Accra. Don’t be confused by the rough road to get there, it won’t take long before you realise why it’s worth the rocky ride-in. A sea breeze, with a sea view to go with it, hits you as soon as you walk through the doors. Probably the closest you will get to feeling like you are in the likes of Scorpios Mykonos or Ocean Beach Club Ibiza. The luxury in the air is palpable. Get comfortable in your pool side cabana, order a frozen cocktail to cool you down and enjoy the sounds of live DJs mixing a range of international sounds. When it’s time to eat, Sandbox has a menu of tasty snack dishes or sit down for more formal dining in their restaurant.

2. Kokrobite: For a Group Getaway and Local Flavor…

Head west of Accra for 45 minutes and you’ll reach the coastal village of Kokrobite. Due to its proximity to the capital it has long been a favourite amongst locals to escape to on the weekends. The likes of Wakanda Beach Resort on Langma Beach have been providing visitors with much appreciated respite of fresh seafood and chilled drinks for several decades. Want to weekend like a real Ghanaian? Hire a villa for the day and pack your coolers with food ready for the grill, sides (jollof, of course), ice, drink and condiments. Buy your fresh fish and lobster when you arrive, and your villa hosts will take care of the rest whilst you relax and spend quality time with your loved ones.

3. Polo Beach Club: For Detty December & Epic Beach Parties…

If Detty December is a holy pilgrimage then Polo Beach Club is Mecca. Fast becoming a legend in the Accra party scene, PBC arrived in 2019 and has been throwing epic 24 hour parties ever since. You’ve probably seen it on social media, full to the brim, with a caption “8am in Accra”. Well, partying all night is easy when the vibes are this good. Expect unforgettable performances from the likes of The Composers, Major League Djz and Odumodublvck, with fireworks and the ocean as your backdrop. Not to mention the kitchen never seems to close. Grab your boys/girls, book your table and strap in for a long night/morning.

4. Busua: For a Surfer's Paradise...

Ghana's coastline is situated in the Gulf of Guinea facing the Atlantic Ocean, which makes it a quiet haven for surfers. Even still, so far the surfing population has been pretty limited to locals and the most explorative of foreign surfers only, which means for those adventurous enough, there is a rare opportunity for plenty of surfing without the usual crowds. Busua, located 6 hours west of Accra, has waves suitable for beginners and advanced surfers. Aside from surfers, the town has become popular with travellers, leading to a solid offering of budget-friendly accommodation, whilst maintaining its fishing village charm. To comfortably get there and move around we’d recommend using one of our trusted transport partners from Accra.

5. Anomabo: For a Secluded Swimming Spot…

Unfortunately Ghana’s waters close to the capital can be heavily polluted, which makes the fear of being brushed by a floating plastic bag, or worse, very real for swimmers. Instead, travel 3 hours west of Accra, before you get to Cape Coast, and you will find our hidden gem - Anomabo Beach Resort. The waves are still ferocious and caution should always (always) be exercised when it comes to “Maame Wata”, but here, swimmers can dip and dive - without dodging plastic - in pure seawater at this lowkey refuge.

6. Senya Beraku: For Breathtaking Sunsets…

Being so close to the Equator, there is nothing quite like a sunset in Ghana. And none better than in Senya Beraku, Central Region. The sun resembles a huge red button in the sky, akin to that of The Lion King, and as it lowers itself towards the horizon the surrounding sky puts on a colours show - bedazzling purples, pinks, oranges, violets, nectarines…it’s magic. For a front row seat, make your way to Sunflower Beach Resort, an understated hidden gem.

7. Rehab Beach Club: For any day of the week…

What is one of the best reasons to live in Accra? So that you can go to the beach on any given day, obviously. For days when you’re up, down, celebratory or reflective, Rehab is a lowkey joint that comes without the frills. The kind of place that becomes your beachside ‘local’; the venue has 3 levels of seating (although it’s usually fairly empty), a decent frozen daiquiri and some banging seafood samosas. Nothing fancy, but if you’re looking to stay under the radar whilst you gaze out at the ocean and consider life’s biggest problems, Rehab does the job.

8. Lou Moon: For a private retreat…

When we talk about getaways, there isn’t much further you can go without being in another  country, than Lou Moon. And when it comes to privacy, you can’t get more private than a private island. Just 90 mins from the border of Cote d’Ivoire lies the most peaceful oasis of picturesque beauty. Unlike most areas along the shoreline, here, waves gently lap the shore due to the secluded bay, which provides further privacy to guests. Spend your afternoon in your private infinity pool, before relaxing for a massage on the beach with the waves as your soundtrack, before heading to your wraparound balcony to soak up the sunset views. La vie est belle.

Save this one for later - we'll see you by the seaside!
