Pre-departure: Key Requirements

  1. Visa (minimum 4 weeks prior to departure): Most international visitors require a visa to enter Ghana. While visa on arrival has been available in the past, our strong recommendation is to obtain your visa before departure. Check the latest visa requirements on Ghana government's website for your relevant country.

  1. Yellow Fever Vaccination (minimum 10 days prior to departure): Proof of yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for all travelers aged nine months and older.

We recommend booking this well in advance of your departure at your nearest pharmacy or with your doctor, who will issue you with your yellow fever vaccination certificate - this is your proof of vaccination, do not forget to pack it in your hand luggage.

  1. Malaria Prevention (timing varies)

Consult your doctor about malaria prevention measures. Antimalarial medication can significantly reduce your risk of contracting the disease. Discuss your travel itinerary with your doctor to determine the most suitable prevention method.

Departure: Packing Essentials

Pack wisely to ensure a comfortable and hassle-free journey. Essential items for your hand luggage include:

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months until expiry

  • Valid visa (if required)

  • Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate

  • Customs declaration form (distributed by flight crew on the plane)

  • Pen (to fill out customs form)

  • Essential Medications

Arriving in Ghana: A Smooth Transition

Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), you'll go through immigration, then baggage and finally customs procedures. Have your passport, visa, yellow fever certificate and customs declaration form ready for inspection.

Feel the humidity smack you in the face as you exit KIA and into the chaos of arrivals. To avoid being fleeced for a taxi, book your airport transfer with us in advance and have one of our drivers meet you.
