Nestled in the heart of Ghana’s Central Region is Ghana’s answer to a lush rainforest paradise - Kakum National Park. Within it, the canopy walkway is one of only a handful in Africa. As the most popular tourist activity in Ghana it’s a must-visit. For those that face the wobbly walk, the reward is an unforgettable view, drenched in infinite hues of green for as far as the eye can see.

Finding Your Way
Located a short drive from the historic city of Cape Coast, Kakum National Park is easily accessible. While public transportation offers budget-friendly options, we would recommend renting a car, if you can, for the freedom to explore the area at your own pace.
Embark on the Canopy Walkway: A Thrilling Experience
Purchase your tickets at reception and once a guide has been assigned to your group it’s time to begin the short hike through the rainforest. Along the way, your guide will teach you about the forest’s history, the richness of its biodiversity and its unique pharmaceutical properties.
Ready to test your nerves? The walk is a series of seven rope bridges suspended up to 50 metres above the rainforest floor. Like Bambi on ice, the new shaky surface will take some getting used to, but once you do, it’s an immersive experience like no other, offering a uniquely bird’s-eye view of an incredible ecosystem. For those who need it, there is a “chicken exit” detour after the first bridge - don’t be that person!
Keep your eyes peeled (and ears perked) as you are guided through Kakum. Although you’re unlikely to see them, the forest elephants, colobus monkeys or even red river hogs may be watching you. Birdwatchers will be in paradise, with hundreds of colourful species flitting through the branches whilst 600 species of butterfly dance alongside. Be sure to stay quiet and listen for the chattering of forest francolins or the haunting call of the blue-legged guineafowl.
A Perfect Day Out for Everyone
While the canopy walkway is the star attraction, Kakum National Park offers much more. Guided nature walks provide opportunities to learn about the park's rich biodiversity, including its diverse flora and fauna. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer, outdoorsy family or a nature enthusiast dipping your toes into ecotourism, Kakum National Park has something for everyone. So, lace up your hiking boots, pack your sense of adventure, and get ready to swing through the heart of Ghana's stunning rainforest.
